Set default characteristic values and restrict maintenance by authorization

Overview

In the standard Change Record, classification data — the class assigned to an Change record and its characteristic values can be edited by anyone who has edit access to the Change Record itself. There’s no way to lock down specific classes to a smaller group of authorized users, even when a class holds sensitive or regulatory data that shouldn’t be open to every Change Record editor. Change Record also lacks the possibility to derive a value for characteristics based on the already maintained Header and Characteristic value.

eXtended Change Management (XCM) closes both gaps, built on the standard classification BAdI.

  • Restrict specific classes (per Change Record Type) so only users holding the dedicated authorization object can assign the class, remove it, or change its characteristic values. This lets you protect sensitive or compliance-relevant classes with a tighter circle of users than general Change Record edit access allows.
  • in a BRF+ decision table, what value a characteristic should take based on another Characteristic value and/or the Change Record header.
